Keeping Tabs on State Delegations
By Pauline Vu, Staff Writer
Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle is being dispatched by the GOP to tell the media and convention-goers about her fellow female Republican governor, vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin of Alaska, according to Derrick DePledge of The Honolulu Advertiser . Both Lingle and Palin were the first female governors of their states, both are former journalists and both former mayors. "I'm one of the only people in America who knows Sarah Palin," Lingle joked to delegates. "And … I'm one of the only people who has traveled her road."
Some Utah delegates are threatening to call for a delegate-by-delegate count, which could yield some votes for Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts and a Mormon, who won 90 percent of the state's vote. This would go against Romney's express wishes, however, according to Thomas Burr of The Salt Lake Tribune . He writes that Romney joked with some delegates: "I know a couple of you in this room, most of them my relatives, who would like to vote for me when the delegates get counted. Don't do that."
