Voters With Disabilities

09-13-12Recent research by Lisa Schur of Rutgers University and Meera Adya of Syracuse University shows that voters with disabilities were nearly 12 percent less likely to vote in 2008 than those with no disabilities. If disabled voters had voted at the same rate as able-bodied voters, three million more ballots would have been cast.  The research also found that, in 2008, disabled voters cast ballots by mail at a rate of nearly 26 percent, significantly higher than that of non-disabled voters at slightly more than 15 percent.
